Manipur and Mizoram Earthquake News :
A large and moderate earthquake shook Manipur and Mizoram on Saturday, causing panic among the people. According to disaster management officials in the two northeastern states, no casualties or property damage have been reported so far.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), a large earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale occurred at 11.08 p.m. The center was in the Temenlong district of western Manipur late Saturday night and at a depth of 28 km
Just after the big quake, another small quake measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale was felt. 11.39 p.m. The hill was in the district of Temenlong and at a depth of 30 km. According to officials, the first tremor lasted about 30 seconds, with panicked people rushing out of the house.
The quake affected parts of Assam and Tripura.
This was the fourth earthquake in Manipur.
Earlier, a magnitude 3.8 earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale was felt in Kamjong district of East Manipur at 3.12 am on Friday, while an earthquake measuring 8.3 on the Richter scale was felt in Ukhrul district of East Manipur on Wednesday.
At 6.09 am in Champai district of East Mizoram on Saturday morning another tremor measuring 3..6 on the Richter scale started and at a depth of 5 km its source. No casualties have been reported so far.
At 8.21am on Friday, the quake had a magnitude of 3.0 and a tremor was also felt in Tawang district of western Arunachal Pradesh at a depth of 10 km.
The northeastern states, especially Mizoram, are often the epicenter of mild to moderate earthquakes.
