The National Medical Commission (NMC) Act

The National Medical Commission (NMC) Act came into force on Friday, amending the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, and enacting a new law.

 According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, the new rules of the National Medical Commission will be to enact regulations, select and determine the quality of the institution, evaluate human resources and above all improve research.

 The new National Medical Commission has mentioned four autonomous institutions – 1.  Undergraduate level Medical Education Board, 2. Postgraduate level Medical Education Board, 3. Medical Assessment and Rating Board 4. Ethics and Medical Registration Board.

 In addition, it will be under the purview of the National Medical Commission to determine the procedure for the final year examination of the uniform MBBS (Next-National Exit Test) and the guidelines on fees for private colleges.

 On behalf of the Ministry of Health, the Union Ministry of Health claims that it is a historic reform in research and improvement of medical science information.
