A police spokesman said security forces launched a search operation in Sugan village in Joynapora area of Shopian on Tuesday evening after receiving information about the presence of terrorists there.

He said the terrorists exchanged fire with security forces and then conducted a search operation in an encounter.
A police official said two militants had been killed in the fighting, which lasted more than 12 hours.
He said it was not yet possible to confirm the identity and affiliation of the slain terrorists.
