Milkha Singh, one of the biggest names in Indian sport and the country’s first track and field superstar, has died of Covid-19.

Milkha Singh breathed two days last Friday night after being transferred from the Covid Intensive Care Unit to the Post Graduate. Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh 

Milkha Singh had developed complications such as fever and decreased oxygen saturation. 

The 91-year-old, who contracted COVID-19 last month, tested negative for the virus on Wednesday. His wife, one-year-old Nirmal Kaur, who was also infected with the virus, died on Sunday in a private hospital in Mohali. 

After a week of treatment at Fortis Hospital in Mohali at home. The legendary athlete is a four-time gold medalist at the Asian Games and champion of the 1958 Commonwealth Games, but his best performance remains fourth in the 400m final of the 1960 Rome Olympics. He also represented India in the 1956 and 1964 Olympics and was Awarded the Padma Shri in 1959.
