A 26-year-old man hacked the social media accounts of about 400 women
LUCKNOW: A 26-year-old man hacked the social media accounts of about 400 women and then started blackmailing them for money. He was arrested on Tuesday by officers of the Lucknow Police Cyber Crime Unit after a victim named Binit Mishra was accused.
Police say a girl (name not recorded) recently filed a complaint that an unidentified person hacked her Facebook account and started blackmailing her for money by showing her offensive pictures of her access. Mishra was arrested on Tuesday after the investigation began.
During interrogation, eighth-grade dropout Mishra said he learned the technique of blackmailing girls from a video on YouTube. He used to post web links to girls on various social media platforms, in which he mentioned that it was a link to their pornographic pictures that girls were asked to enter their email ID and password to open. This way he gained access to their social media accounts.
After gaining unauthorized access to the girls’ social media accounts, he demanded mixed payments, otherwise he would post offensive pictures, videos and chats on social media.
“Mixed social media hacked accounts and accessed about 400 girls’ photo channels, mobile chats and threatened to upload content to their phones if they did not pay,” a police official said in the report. The official also said that his laptop was confiscated and sent for forensic examination.
