Officials from the income tax department searched Chitra Ramkrishna, the former chief of the National Stock Exchange of India, on Thursday.
“The IT officials are visiting her apartment in Mumbai,” a source close to the situation told Media. Officials said the searches are being conducted to investigate allegations of tax evasion and financial irregularities leveled against her and others, according to the news agency PTI. From April 2013 to December 2016, Ramkrishna served as the MD and CEO of NSE.
According to a recent Sebi order, Ramkrishna was directed by a Himalayan yogi in the hiring of Anand Subramanian as the exchange’s group operational officer and advisor to the managing director when she was in charge of the stock exchange’s business.
According to the Sebi ruling, Ramkrishna disclosed various internal secret information with the yogi, including NSE’s financial and business objectives, dividend scenario, and financial results, and even advised him on employee performance reviews.
According to Sebi, the NSE board of directors allowed Ramkrishna to quit without taking any action against her. Chitra Ramkrishna stated during the investigation that she was receiving guidance from a ‘Siddha-purusha’ or ‘Paramhansa’ who had been her spiritual guide for over 20 years. The details revealed by the Sebi investigation, however, contradict this.
NSE and its former CEOs Chitra Ramkrishna and Ravi Narain have been fined by Sebi, and NSE has been forbidden from launching any new products for a period of six months.

“Ramkrishna claims that the third person was not Mr Subramanian; however, the results of the forensic investigation conducted by EY (asked by Sebi and commissioned by NSE) concluded that the person using the email id ‘rigyajursama@outlook.com’ was Mr Subramanian himself,” according to the Sebi order.
Sebi stated the spiritual guru in issue was interested in Chitra Ramkrishna’s hairstyle, shared songs with her, and even went on a vacation to the Seychelles with her to ‘relax.’ Chitra met this anonymous person numerous times in 2015, according to the inquiry.
“Without delving into the details of each communication, it is obvious that the mystery individual is a physical being and has gone missing,” IT officials said.
