A 15-year-old boy in Hyderabad was inspired by the lead character Kgf Rocky Bhai and smoked an entire pack of smokes after viewing the popular film KGF Chapter 2 three times in two days.
He suffered a severe throat soreness and cough as a result, and was sent to the hospital for treatment.
Doctors at Century Hospital in Hyderabad said on Saturday that they had successfully treated the boy as well as counselled him.
‘MORAL RESPONSIBILITY OF FILMMAKERS’
Dr Rohith Reddy Pathuri, a pulmonologist, commented on the case “Teenagers are easily persuaded by personalities such as ‘Rocky Bhai.’ In this example, a young boy began smoking and became very ill after swallowing a packet of cigarettes. Movies have a large influence on our society. Moviemakers and actors have a moral obligation not to glorify activities such as smoking, chewing tobacco, or consuming alcohol. Characters such as ‘Rocky Bhai’ have a cult following, and the actions of these demi-gods on film have an impact on young minds.”
“Adolescent parents must maintain a close eye on what their children are doing and what influences are influencing their child’s actions. Instead than regretting it afterwards, it is critical that parents play a part in raising knowledge about the negative consequences of behaviours such as smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol,” Dr. Rohith Reddy noted.
Cigarette smoking has been linked to an increase in the incidence and severity of respiratory infections, decreased physical fitness, and potential impacts on lung growth and function in adolescents.
