According to news reports, the Patiala House Court in Delhi has issued an arrest order for Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira Banerjee for allegedly smuggling coal. An arrest warrant has been issued in Abhishek’s wife’s name, according to the Enforcement Directorate. Rujira Banerjee has been given till August 20 to appear in court.
According to sources, the ED has filed a court complaint alleging that Abhishek’s wife has failed to appear after numerous notices. The counsel for Rujira Banerjee told the court that they had filed a plea in the Supreme Court, but that the case had not yet been heard. Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sent several notices to Abhishek’s wife Rujira Bandyopadhyay in connection with the illegal coal smuggling case. Abhishek has twice before been questioned by the ED in a coal smuggling case. Rujira never appeared before the ED.
