In a recent interview, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russian troops were on the verge of captured him and his family.
In an interview with TIME, Zelensky stated that the military informed him that teams of Russian strikers had parachuted into Kyiv in order to kill or abduct him and his family.
Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, acknowledged the same.
“Before that night, we had only ever seen such things in movies,” Yermak told the American news magazine of the presidential guard’s attempt to protect the facility.
Reminiscing about the early hours of February 24 when the bombing began in Kyiv, Zelensky also described how he and his wife Olena Zelenska reacted.
“We woke them awake,” Zelenskyy explained.
“It was quite audible. “Over there, there were explosions,” he added.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the invasion.
Following a secretive visit to Ukraine’s capital Kyiv earlier this week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that Russia is failing in its war objectives and that “Ukraine is prospering.”
“We had the opportunity to publicly demonstrate our unwavering support for the Ukrainian government and people.” “This was, in our judgement, a vital occasion to be there to have detailed face-to-face discussions,” Blinken told reporters near the Polish-Ukrainian border earlier Monday, according to The Associated Press.
During their visit, which was the highest-level American visit to Kyiv since Russia’s invasion in February, Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin told Zelenskyy and his advisors that Washington D.C. would give more than $300 million in foreign military financing, and a $165 million ammunition sale had been approved.
