The Congress has lost the just-concluded assembly elections in India. Congress president Sonia Gandhi is going to resign from her party post along with her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi for failing in the elections. Indian media NDTV reported this information in a report on Saturday.
According to the report, a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) is going to be held on Sunday. It is being speculated that they may resign at that meeting.
The Congress has suffered tragic defeats in the Assembly elections in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur. The seat of Punjab was also lost to the Congress.
In Uttar Pradesh too, Priyanka Gandhi had to return empty-handed. In Goa too, the Congress has failed to get close to forming a government. Congress leaders demanded the resignation of the Gandhi family soon after the results of the five-state polls were announced. The pressure was on the top leadership.
It is rumored that they are going to resign in this situation.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had resigned from the post of Congress president in 2019 after taking responsibility for the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. Since then, Sonia Gandhi has been the interim president of the Congress. Besides, Priyanka Gandhi has been given the responsibility of general secretary.
