Sri Lanka could only manage 178 runs in their second innings after scoring 174 in their first. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin each grabbed four wickets for India, while Mohammed Shami took two. After Anil Kumble, Ashwin became India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Tests, surpassing Kapil Dev.
Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets after India won the toss and decided to bat Sri Lanka. India had taken a 400-run lead. Nissanka completed his fifty but Sri lanka continued to lose wickets at the other end.
Sri Lanka had started play after a score of 108 for 4 overnight. Earlier, Jadeja smashed a 175-run innings to help India declare their first innings at 574 for eight.
Apart from him, Rishabh Pant struck a counter-attacking 96, and Hanuma Vihari, who was pushed up the order, hit a fifty as well. Virat Kohli had also played a good 45-ball 45, but on his 100th Test, he fell short of a big score. Initially, India had won the toss and Rohit Sharma, the captain, had chosen to bat.
