On the BJP’s victory in the recently ended Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him “a man of incredible vitality and dynamism” and crediting him with the party’s triumph.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a man of extraordinary vitality and dynamism who has accomplished some remarkable things, particularly politically. We didn’t think he’d win by such large margins, but he did “While talking with the media at the Jaipur Literature Festival, Tharoor stated.
At an event on Sunday, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor remarked that the Indian voter may one day surprise the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, but that today the people have given them (BJP) what they wanted.
After praising the Prime Minister, the Congress leader chastised him, saying, “He has released such forces in society that are separating our nation on communal and religious grounds, which, in my opinion, is introducing a toxin that is bad.”
Tharoor also expressed surprise at political commentators portraying the UP election results as a “foregone conclusion,” claiming that nobody projected the BJP’s victory until the exit polls were released.
“There was no doubt in my mind until the exit polls came out that most people were expecting a very, very close race, and some were claiming anecdotally that the Samajwadi Party was ahead,” he added.
According to the Congressman, “The Indian voter has the ability to surprise, and the BJP will be surprised one day as well. But, for the time being, they have given the BJP exactly what they wanted.”
“Many people did not expect the BJP to reclaim power with such a large majority. Because the Samajwadi Party’s (SP) seats have increased, they will be a strong opponent “Congress’s leader stated.
He praised Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s campaigning for the Congress in the UP Assembly elections, saying, “Priyanka Gandhi Vadra did fantastic and energetic campaigning for the party, and “from my point of view, I don’t think that the Congress per se can be faulted on the grounds of one person’s campaigning.”
“I believe the challenges are broader for the party as well as for party viability in some states where our presence has been steadily declining for the last 30 years,” he said.
“You would have seen her everywhere, even being detained by the Uttar Pradesh Police a couple of times. You’ve seen her on the spot and running around the state a lot “According to the Congressman,
Tharoor made the remarks regarding the BJP while in Jaipur on Sunday for the Jaipur Literature Festival 2022. The 15th edition of the Jaipur Literature Festival 2022 will be held in a hybrid format from March 5 to 14, with on-ground events from March 10 to 14 at Clarks Amer in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
