With tensions high over Russia’s military buildup near Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for an urgent ceasefire in the country’s east, where fighting between pro-Russian rebels and Ukrainian soldiers have escalated in recent days.

Following a phone discussion with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, on Sunday, Zelensky urged for a resumption of talks with Russia under the auspices of the OSCE, as well as an urgent ceasefire.

“We support stepping up the pace of the peace process. “We support the convening of the TCG as soon as possible,” he said, referring to the Trilateral Contact Group, which consists of Ukraine, Russia, and the OSCE.

“We are in favour of bolstering the peace process. On Twitter, Zelensky stated, “We ask for the immediate implementation of the TCG and support the prompt implementation of a regime of quiet.”

He also stated that Ukraine supports peace discussions under the Trilateral Contact Group, in which Ukraine, Russia, and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe all engage (OSCE).

Continuing the talk from yesterday, I was updated on the current security situation and new provocative shelling. We support stepping up the pace of the peace process. We favour the convening of the TCG as soon as possible, as well as the imposition of a silent regime.

On Sunday, Poland, which currently chairs the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), announced that an exceptional session of the group’s Permanent Council on Ukraine will be held.

According to a Reuters storey, Ukraine requested that the meeting be held on Monday in a letter released on Twitter by Adam Halacinskie, Poland’s permanent representative to the OSCE.

According to an Associated Press (AP) report, US Vice President Kamala Harris wrapped up a weekend of outreach to European allies with a push to bolster the West’s resolve in confronting Moscow with crippling sanctions, despite increasingly dire signs that Russia’s Vladimir Putin plans to order an invasion of Ukraine.
