Delhi-NCR News (August 13): Senior farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni was arrested in Manesar on Saturday after he blocked the National Highway-48 with farmers, causing traffic jams. The farmers were protesting against the proposed acquisition of 1,810 acres of land in three villages of Manesar and demanding adequate compensation.
Meanwhile, security agencies are facing a daunting task ahead of Independence Day – ensuring that the Red Fort remains monkey-free when Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the nation on August 15 and hoists the tricolor.
Several protesting farmers were detained in Manesar.
Several farmer leaders have been arrested and traffic on NH-48 is now clear.
According to police sources, Haryana’s farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni was among the arrested farmers.
