Meta (formerly Facebook) India country head Ajit Mohan resigned from the company on November 3.

Sources told the media that the exit was sudden. Mohan is said to be joining rival Snap, a source familiar with the matter said.

“Ajit has decided to resign his position at Meta to pursue another opportunity outside the company,” Nicola Mendelson, vice president of global business groups, said in a statement. “Over the past four years, he has taken on a critical role in properly roadmapping and scaling our India operations. Meta India has successfully served millions of Indian businesses, partners and people.

We will continue all our operations in India with a strong leadership team. We are deeply committed to India.

We are grateful to Ajit for his leadership and contribution is undeniable and wish him all the best for the future,” he said. Ajit Mohan took charge of the India market as Managing Director in January 2019. He joined Meta succeeding previous head Umang Bedi, who resigned in October 2017. .

Prior to Meta, Mohan worked for four years as the CEO of Star India’s (now Disney Star) streaming service Hotstar.
