The death toll from Covid-19 in India has risen to 5,20,855, with 4,100 deaths registered in a single day with Maharashtra reconciling the number of deaths caused by the viral disease in the state, according to the Union health ministry.

According to the ministry’s data updated at 8 a.m., a total of 1,660 new cases have brought the country’s Covid-19 tally to 4,30,18,032, while the number of active cases has dipped below 20,000.

The number of active cases of the virus has dropped to 16,741, the lowest level in 702 days and 0.04 percent of all cases. According to the government, the national Covid-19 recovery rate was 98.75 percent.

The inclusion of non-Covid fatalities (4,005) in Maharashtra’s death toll resulted in a high death toll. According to a media dispatch, the state has recorded two more deaths caused by the viral sickness in the last 24 hours.

In just 24 hours, the active Covid-19 caseload in the country was reduced by 4,789 instances.

According to the health ministry, the daily positivity rate was 0.25 percent, and the weekly positivity rate was 0.29 percent.

In the previous 24 hours, a total of 6,58,489 tests were performed to detect the illness. Over 78.63 crore Covid tests have been performed in India thus far.

The number of persons who have recovered has increased to 4,24,80,436; however, the case fatality rate has remained unchanged in the country’s active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

On August 7, 2020, India’s Covid-19 tally surpassed 20 lakh, followed by 30 lakh on August 23, 2020, 40 lakh on September 5, 2020, and 50 lakh on September 16, 2020.

On September 28, 2020, it crossed the 60 lakh milestone, then the 70 lakh mark on October 11, 2020, the 80 lakh mark on October 29, 2020, the 90 lakh mark on November 20, 2020, and the one-crore mark on December 19, 2020.

On May 4, 2021, the country passed the two-crore barrier, and on June 23, 2021, it passed the three-crore mark.

There were 4,100 additional fatalities, with 4,007 in Maharashtra and 81 in Kerala.

1,47,779 people have died as a result of the Covid virus in Maharashtra, 67,631 in Kerala, 40,048 in Karnataka, 38,025 in Tamil Nadu, 26,150 in Delhi, 23,493 in Uttar Pradesh, and 21,197 in West Bengal.

More than 70% of the deaths, according to the ministry, were caused by comorbidities.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry wrote on its website, adding that the numbers’ state-by-state distribution is still being verified and reconciled.
