An FIR has been registered against the agencies responsible for the maintenance and operation of the Morbi bridge collapse in Gujarat. More than 142 people were killed in the Morby Bridge crash, officials said Monday.

Morbi Municipal Chief Officer Sandeep Singh Jala said on Sunday that the city-based watch and e-bike maker Oreva Group has been entrusted with the task of repairing and maintaining the bridge. They got the tender for the renovation and operation of the bridge.

A few people were called by the Morbi police for preliminary questioning after the FIR was issued on Sunday night, Superintendent (SP) Rahul Tripathi said.

It is known that nobody has been arrested in the case of the bridge collapse.
Rajkot Range Inspector General Ashok Yadav told PTI, “The death toll in Morbi Bridge collapse has risen to 134”.

In a complaint information report (FIR) filed with the Morbi ‘B’ Division police station on Sunday night, the police blamed the companies ‘whose names are emerging as accused in the investigation for the maintenance and operation of the suspension bridge.

The incident has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 308 (attempt to culpable homicide).

Prakash Dekivadiar, ‘B’ division police inspector, mentioned in the FIR that the bridge over the Machu river in Morbi town was out of use for about eight months, as the local administration handed over its maintenance to a ‘private agency’.

After the maintenance work was completed, the agency opened the suspension bridge to the public on October 26.
