PETA India founder Ingrid Newkirk took a public bath on the streets of Mumbai to highlight water wastage, especially in meat and dairy production.

Ingrid Newkirk, founder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, held an open bath in Mumbai to protest water wastage, particularly in meat and dairy production. Meat and dairy products require 50 times more water to prepare than other pulses, vegetables and grains.

PETA claimed that the waste of water in meat and dairy production is not only harming animals but also the planet. Dr. Karis Bennett spoke to Times Radio and pointed out the gender differences between men and women and how their eating habits accentuated the disparities. On the other hand, Daniel Cox of PETA’s German chapter reports that men’s consumption of meat is taxed 41 percent higher than women’s.

One in four people worldwide do not have access to purified drinking water. Animal food production consumes one-third of the world’s freshwater resources—one-third of the world’s cropland. These croplands could be used to provide another source of food for hungry people, but instead, the natural cycle of animal food is disrupted due to deliberate breeding and consumption and killing. Going vegan can save about 200 animal lives a year.
