The Asansol Lok Sabha seat has been vacated after Babul Supriya left the BJP and joined the Trinamool Congress and resigned as an MP. At the same time voting will be held in Baliganj assembly constituency. Because Subrata Mukherjee, a veteran Trinamool leader, passed away on November 4.
Supremo Mamata Banerjee announced the Trinamool candidate in these two centers. He tweeted on Sunday that the candidate for the Asansol Loksabha Center is prominent actor and former Union Minister Shatrughan Sinha. On the other hand, the candidate in Baliganj assembly constituency is musician and former Union Minister Babul Supriya.
Asansol Lok Sabha and Baliganj Assembly by-elections have been announced on Saturday. According to the Election Commission, voting will take place in these two constituencies on Tuesday, April 12. The count will take place on Saturday, April 17th. On the same day, by-elections will be held in Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Maharashtra. As the notification of voting has been issued, the standard code of conduct has been issued in this constituency from this day.
BJP’s Babul Supriya won from Asansol in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He later joined the Trinamool Congress. After joining the Trinamool Congress, Babul also resigned as an MP. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accepted it. As a result, the by-election in that vacant seat was in arrears. Besides, Subrata Mukherjee was the MLA of Baliganj and a senior minister of the state. He passed away on the day of Kalipujo last November. Due to the death of Subrata Babu, votes were also pending in Baliganj constituency.
According to the commission, 100% of the booths in Asansol have been identified as exciting booths.
