Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is set to visit India in May to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Goa.
Bhutto will lead the Pakistani delegation that will attend the SCO foreign ministers meeting on May 4 and 5.
Since the visit of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2014, no Pakistani leader has made a trip to India. Additionally, it will be the first visit of any Pakistani foreign minister to India since 2011 when Hina Rabbani Khar visited the country.

Bilawal Bhutto has been invited to the meeting by India, which will hold the SCO’s rotational chairmanship in 2022–2023.
India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, extended Pakistan’s foreign minister an official invitation via the Indian Embassy in Islamabad.
The SCO was launched in Shanghai in June 2001 and consists of eight full members, including its six founding members, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan joined as full members in 2017.
The meeting of foreign ministers is expected to be attended by all members of the grouping. Pakistan’s foreign ministry confirmed that they received India’s invitation for the SCO meeting earlier in January, but it is yet to be decided if they will attend the event.
This visit by Bilawal Bhutto is a significant step towards improving the relationship between the two countries. It presents an opportunity for India and Pakistan to discuss key issues and work towards a peaceful resolution.
The SCO summit will provide a platform for the leaders to engage in constructive dialogue and strengthen their ties. Bhutto will lead the Pakistani delegation that will attend the SCO foreign ministers meeting on May 4 and 5.
