In an impressive display of batting, KL Rahul Record in IPL has broken Virat Kohli’s Past record become the fastest Indian cricketer to reach 7000 runs in T20 cricket.
Rahul achieved this feat during Lucknow Super Giants’ match against Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Rahul achieved the milestone in his 197th innings, surpassing Kohli’s record of reaching the landmark in 212 innings during a T20I against New Zealand in Rajkot back in November 2017. The talented right-handed batsman needed just 14 runs to reach the milestone before the match against the Super Giants.
Before Rahul, Babar Azam was the fastest to reach the 7000-run mark, achieving the feat in his 187th innings in October 2021 against Southern Punjab. Chris Gayle is the second-fastest to the milestone, having reached it in 2015 while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Rahul’s achievement comes as no surprise to cricket enthusiasts, given his consistent performance in the ongoing IPL. He recently scored a half-century against the Rajasthan Royals and became the second-fastest batsman to score 2000 runs as skipper in the IPL. Despite this, Rahul has faced criticism for his strike rate for the Super Giants.
During the match against Gujarat Titans, Rahul played out a maiden over off Mohammed Shami in the first over. However, in the third over, he smashed three consecutive fours, with the third four taking him past the 7000-run mark in T20s. This helped LSG gain momentum in the chase of 136.
KL Rahul’s record-breaking achievement is a testament to his remarkable talent and consistency in T20 cricket. As he continues to perform at the highest level, cricket fans around the world eagerly await his future accomplishments.
